Questions

Q: What exactly is hypnosis?
A: Hypnosis is a state of fixed or focused
concentration in which you allow yourself to
become highly responsive to suggestions. The
suggestions given must be true and
believable to you for your subconscious mind
to adopt the suggestions. Although deep
relaxation is strongly recommended, anyone
who has difficulty in becoming totally
relaxed, will still be able to benefit from
hypnosis. The senses become very alert in
hypnosis and the subconscious mind becomes
relaxed and open to accept helpful and
beneficial suggestions. Many people don’t
realize that daydreaming, fantasizing and
driving a car on “autopilot” are all
examples of light states of hypnosis. The
person in hypnosis is in control at all
times. If at any time you hear anything that
makes you uncomfortable, you simply open
your eyes.
Q: How does hypnosis work?
A: Our minds work on two levels: the
conscious and unconscious. Usually our
conscious minds are in control while we make
decisions, think and act. The conscious mind
filters, and edits processed information
passing it on to the subconscious mind. The
subconscious mind controls our habits.
During hypnosis, we let the subconscious
mind be in control. As a result, the
judgmental, conscious mind is bypassed and
goes directly to the subconscious so that
beliefs, habits and behaviors can be
modified according to the wishes and desires
of the client. That’s why it can be so quick
to change habits and beliefs that have been
around for a lifetime.
Q: Do people in hypnosis have full
control?
A: Yes, absolutely! There must be 100%
consent for hypnosis to work. Therefore, a
hypnotist cannot hypnotize you unless you
want to be hypnotized and are in total
agreement. All hypnosis is “self-hypnosis.”
You the client, are allowing the hypnotist
to guide you into the hypnosis state. Even
while under hypnosis, you are still free to
reject or receive any suggestion at any
time. You are in complete control during the
hypnosis process, and will not do or say
anything that you don’t want to do or that
is against your will or would not normally
do. Nobody can be forced into hypnosis. It’s
a very safe, powerful, and effective tool to
reinforce the changes you want to make for
yourself. These can be weight-loss, reducing
stress, increasing self-confidence or
anything that keeps you from being the
person that you want to be. However,
remember: hypnosis only works if these are
changes you want for yourself. If a spouse,
family member or friends are pressuring you
to use hypnosis and you are just going along
to please them, even the most experienced
hypnotist will not be able to help.
Motivation is the key to making the changes
that you are looking for.
Q: What does hypnosis feel like?
A: Everyone is unique and experiences
hypnosis differently. Most people feel very
relaxed and at ease. You are aware of
everything that goes on around you. Even
though the experience is different for
everyone, most people agree that hypnosis is
a very pleasant state of deep inner calm and
physical relaxation.
Q: What can hypnosis be used for?
A: Hypnosis can be used for many things
such as learning new coping strategies,
increasing motivation, eliminating bad
habits, clarifying personal and professional
goals and creating positive behavioral
changes and healthier lifestyles. |
